ORIGIN OF TAAL Taal originated from laya or rhythm and also developed with laya,in a way taal is a division of laya. Origin of taal also has a number of myths attached.classic scriptures believe that taal originated from the dim dim of the damru of lord shiva. Some also believe that demon king ravana was a great scholar and many of the taals created by him are no more in use for their complexity. Another myths says that when lord shiva killed demon tripurasar with his blood his son ganesha mixed mud to make to dhol and covered it with the skin of the demon with thye frist strike on it ganesha created taal. Some say shiva’s tandava gave ‘ta’ and parvati’s dance lended ‘la’ to make taal.

MARG- Movement of kaal from first matra to the last is called marg.
TEN VARIOUS ASPECTS KAAL – Kaal stands for time and binding of laya in time is called kaal. MARG- Movement of kaal from first matra to the last is called marg. KRIYA - Showing taal on palm is called kriya. ANG – Division of taals is called ang. GRAH – The first matra from which a song begins is called grah. JAATI – By jaati we come to know about laghu or small matras.

KALA – The method and style of playing tabla and pakhawaj is called kala.
YATI- The method of measuring laya and gati or pace in music is called yati. LAYA – The pace of time is called laya. PARSTAR – It stands for elaboration,any taal or bandish is elaborated with kaayde,palte,rele and tukde this elaboration is called parstar.
