“VASSIL LEVSKI” NATIONAL MILITARY UNIVERSITY COMMON SECURITY AND DEFENCE POLICY OLYMPIAD 2018 The aim of the CSDP OLYMPIAD common module is to acquaint our cadets with the basic knowledge on CSDP, providing them with the incentive to study and gain the knowledge necessary to write a paper on a CSDP – related issue, which in turn will be published and circulated within the relevant EU Institutions. In addition, they will be provided with the opportunity to compete with their fellow cadets from other EU Member States in a CSDP Knowledge Competition. fh

CONTENT of the CSDP OLYMPIAD module consists of three parts: An Internet – based Distance Learning Course “IDL”. CSDP IDL consisting of 4 Autonomous Knowledge Units (AKUs) AKU1: “History and Context of CSDP” AKU2: “European Security Strategy” AKU4: “CSDP Crisis Management Structures and the Chain of command” AKU7: “Lisbon Treaty and its implications for CFSP / CSDP • Drafting and submitting a paper on a CSDP – related topic. Paper consisting of about 3,500 words with a relevant CSDP title. • A residential CSDP Knowledge Competition. Cadets are going to be divided into teams. Best effort will be made so as each team comprises of cadets coming from different States in order to promote the spirit of solidarity, cooperation and mutual understanding. fh

Successful completion of the IDL test is a prerequisite for the participation in the final phase. NLT 30 September 2017 Choice of the Paper title 1 July – 1 October 2017 Cover Page Design Competition Cover Sheet Design 1 October – 1 December 2017 Cover Page Voting via internet for the best cover page design  Website to be created. Voting of IG members only 1 September – 8 December 2017 Paper writing about 3,500 words 8 December 2017 – 19 January 2018 Papers Correction Phase 9 February 2018 Paper Results / composition of the groups for the preliminary round of paper competition The ranking of the papers will define the composition of the groups for the presentations during the residential phase April 2018 Competition preparation and team networking The participants will be informed about the members of their knowledge competition team NLT 30 March 2018 Final Registration for the Residential Phase and the IG Meeting National Military Unversity “Vassil Levski” Bulgaria 21-25 May 2018 Paper Presentation, Knowledge Competition – IG Meeting This part will be hosted in Veliko Tarnovo (NMU) hjkuk
