3 Convention Highlights!
Election Results Jr. Vice President – Cheryl Cherny Director at Large – Dale Robinson Training Speakers The election of officers for Sertoma were announced at the convention. Cheryl Cherny was elected our Jr. Vice President and Dale Robinson was elected to a three year term as Director-at-Large. The training sessions held, received outstanding reviews. We want to thank all trainers for conducting the sessions and in some cases for actually writing the programs for us. Participation by the attendees was fantastic. During our session on Friday morning 99% of attendees attended one of the four sessions. Saturday morning we had 97% in attendance. And at no time during the training did we have less that 80% in attendance. We know that we had several attendees who had to leave the convention earlier or this figure would have been higher. Our outside speakers were uplifting and educational and added a lot to the overall success of the convention.

4 2014-2015 Sertoma Year Strengthen and Expand
As I look at , I am excited by the opportunities for both internal and external growth that are planned. Those of you that were able to attend the Sertoma Annual Convention in Overland Park were able to hear about some of the plans for the upcoming year. For those that were not able to attend, let me take just a few minutes to share some of what you can expect to see and where we will need your assistance and support in the upcoming months. Two key words really describe our strategic growth plans for : strengthen and expand. When we talk about strengthen, we are looking at ways we can grow internally and strengthen our existing Sertoma Clubs. We will speak about a few of the specifics of HOW we plan to strengthen our Clubs in a few minutes. When we talk about expanding, we are looking at ways we can grow externally and develop new relationships centered around a shared mission of hearing health with new organizations. Many of you know Greg Townson, who is working at the headquarters. He is taking the lead on developing these new relationships with new organizations. He has been working on developing relationships at the national level with audiology and speech pathology student organizations at colleges and universities across the nation. These conversations have been going very well and are moving forward. Where possible, the goal is to make the initial introductions and then hand these opportunities for new relationships off to existing local Sertoma Clubs. We are excited about where these national discussions are headed, but we are already having some exciting conversations at universities across the US and the response has been amazing. Recently, Greg and I were able to have a conversation with the faculty advisor for the speech pathology student organization at Kansas State University. They were very excited to talk with us about ways we could expand the relationship with the local Sertoma Club and as a result of this conversation, it looks like they will actually be sponsoring a CELEBRATE SOUND event in the very near future! I’d like to turn the program over to Greg for a few minutes to talk about some of the other ideas for expansion and external growth.”

Applicants do not need to worry about their geography or place in the Sertoma structure. What we need are the right people, willing to help with this exciting work. 9 Celebrate Sound Don’t Walk in Silence®
Training Specialists Celebrate Sound Don’t Walk in Silence® Club Consultants During this upcoming year we will also be searching for specialists in two different areas. The first will be members who would like to assist clubs with our national fundraising event – Celebrate Sound Don’t Walk in Silence. These individuals will assist in the training of other members and assist with the support of the individuals walks in which they are assigned. They will be trained by staff at headquarters. Club Consultants will be made of our Certified and Regional Trainers. These trainers will assist clubs with their growth efforts including evaluations of the club. In other words, these individuals will be part trainer and part consultant.

10 Interview your club for feedback!
Club Liaison Interview your club for feedback! During the first part of our year we will conducting an expectation study. This process will be developed through focus groups with Sertoma members. Once the study is developed we may ask Club Liaisons to participate in surveys and interviews with your club members. Some questions we might ask are: What is it they expect from Sertoma? We know a certain percentage participate in the programs of Sertoma. Why do the others not? Why do some attend the national convention and others do not? This activity will occur during the first six months of our upcoming Sertoma year so that the board of directors will have this information for discussion at their January board meeting.

11 District Governor “A Year of Transition”
“Thanks, Carol. As you can see the Training Specialists and Club Liaisons will be playing important roles in strengthening our internal relationships and growing our Sertoma Clubs. One of the things that was discussed at the Annual Convention was the role of the District Governor in While we aren’t going to get into a lot of the details of the Governor role for the year on this call, I do want to share with you a couple of key points. As announced at the Annual Conference, in addition to the standard administrative tasks that Governors have historically done, in , the Governors will have the opportunity to select a specific area of focus. They will either continue their current focus on expansion to develop new relationships with new communities or shift to a focus more on strengthening the existing Sertoma Clubs. More specific information will be shared with the District Governors on their upcoming call in June. As you can see, the coming year will be a year focused on strengthening internal relationships and expanding and building new relationships. Thank you in advance for your commitment to do what you can to help in both areas and grow Sertoma. Carol, I will hand things back over to you for final announcements and wrap up.”

If so, make sure your Club Secretary has sent in Form 130, the Club Officer Reporting Form. We want to make sure we send all correspondence to the correct officers starting on July 1. All Quarterly Activities Reports should be brought up to date and sent to headquarters. These two reports, if not completed, can cause a club to be put on the Not In Good Standing Report and we certainly don’t want that to happen.
