September 26, 2011 Pick up a handout from the front and complete it for bellringers
2
Today Go over HW Notes: Forces and D-T graphs Work time
Hand in Part 6 (Separate sheet!) Go over part 7 Notes: Forces and D-T graphs Work time Newton’s 1st Law Lab (Lab pkt due tomorrow!) Finish HW Pkt: only graphs have to be on separate sheet
3
Balanced Forces Forces that are opposite in direction and equal in magnitude (size) are balanced forces
4
Balanced Forces A balanced force on a resting object means… the object remains at rest. Static Equilibrium A balanced force on a moving object means… the object continues moving with the same speed AND direction (constant velocity) Dynamic Equilibrium
5
Unbalanced Forces Unbalanced forces are not opposite and/or equal.
In unbalanced forces, one force is usually greater than the other.
6
Unbalanced Forces Unbalanced forces cause a change in direction and/or speed of an object.
7
Do these arrows represent balanced or unbalanced forces?
car Engine force friction

Now… Work time Newton’s 1st Law Lab (Lab pkt due tomorrow!)
Finish HW Pkt: only graphs have to be on separate sheet Start Review (from up front)
