1 Best Practices Consortium
Supply Chain Best Practices Consortium Strategic Assessments Executive Seminar General Session September, 2006

2 The Opportunity Today, the consortium has great tools for gathering data, researching specific issues and networking supply chain executives. But … The tools are primarily “bottom up”, focused on specific issues. The tools assume you know where to start – where the greatest opportunities are. The missing part of the puzzle is the “top down” view. How am I doing overall and where are the gaps?

3 Capability Scores Assigned to each performance and process question
Point values are based on the relative value of a capability to an enterprise Base point value – default assigned by the consortium’s technical committee Adjusted point value (optional) – assigned by each participant to reflect their business model Three scores – performance, process and combined Scoring options – base or adjusted point values; all participants or filtered group Percentile scores – percentage comparisons to peers or best practice Score symbol – globe symbol with 4 quarters filled in to reflect quartiles (peer scores) or percent of best practice maximum Topic completion in the online interview must be 80% or higher to receive a score

4 High value, but Difficult = 2
Opportunities Each gap at the question level is assigned an opportunity rating based on potential value and implementation difficulty/cost Value categories are relative to each enterprise – high, medium and low Difficulty categories vary by capability – easy, moderate, difficult Opportunity symbol – a 3x3 matrix is translated into an easy to read opportunity bar that ranks opportunities from 0 to 4 based on a combination of value and difficulty. High value, but Difficult = 2

5 Assessment Options At the top of each assessment page are the options selected by the user for each run of the assessment model. Additional Options Display by functional group or consolidated list Display current year with opportunity ratings or multi-year trend of assessment scores Sort any column (e.g. scores or opportunities) in ascending or descending sequence (consolidated list format).

6 Dashboard – Current Year by Function

7 Summary The goal of the Strategic Assessment Dashboard is to provide a “top down” view of each participant’s supply chain. The essential elements include: Scoring of key supply chain capabilities based on data provided in the Benchmarking & Best Practices online interview (i.e. leverage existing data) The assignment of opportunity values and implementation difficulties to each gap identified in the ratings process The ability to adjust scoring to fit varying business models The ability to filter the companies included in an evaluation group A roll up of scores to summary views A drill down from summaries to detail gaps and opportunities
