2 Outline Towards the end of the semester, each student will make a 5 minute presentation summarizing a journal, conference paper, or government laboratory report on smart grid. A suitable source for journal papers is IEEE Transactions on Smart Grid. This lecture outlines expectations for this presentation. Copyright © 2019

3 Five minutes is a short amount of time!
You will need to summarize an entire paper into ten or fewer slides. The following slides will outline expectations for content: You can cover more than is mentioned in the following slides if this facilitates your explanation, but Make sure you include slides that relate to each of these topics since these will form the basis of the grading rubric. 4 1. What is the topic & what is its significance?
What problem is being solved, or what new service is being described? Is this, in your opinion, an important problem or service? Is this the only possible solution to solving this problem or providing this service? Copyright © 2019

5 2. What is the theory or principle underlying the solution or service?
Circuit theory? Optimization? Economics? No theoretical basis? How does the theory or principle support the proposed solution or service? Copyright © 2019

6 3. What is the practical implementation?
Is this hardware or software, or both? Has it actually been built, or is it currently only conceptual? How has it been tested? Has it been incorporated into an actual microgrid or power system? Copyright © 2019

7 4. What could be added to improve this solution or service?
What are the shortcomings of the paper? Are there additional issues or services that could increase the value of this proposal? How would you improve or build on this work? Copyright © 2019

8 Summary of essential components of presentation.
Topic and significance. Theory or principle. Implementation. Improvements. Copyright © 2019

9 Presentations will be in class on April 25 and 30, and May 2.
Start looking for a suitable journal or conference paper. Read and summarize it with a view to the four essential components for the presentation. Prepare and practice the presentation. I will assign slots for each student. Copyright © 2019
