2. Objectives of the Meeting
To facilitate the WG to exchange views and opinions on the RCARO’s possible future role
To facilitate the WG’s review of the issues raised in the Strategic Paper reported by the RCARO Director
To agree on conclusions and recommendations on the future role of RCARO
To prepare an associated Work Plan

3. Major Discussion Points
Implementation of Supplementary Projects
Support of Research Projects
Support of training/Education Projects
Coordination of the RCA Working Groups and ad hoc Committees
Recruitment of a Senior Staff Member

4. Comments of Government Parties on the WG Report
AUL sought clarification on the supplementary projects.
RCARO Director opined that these could be used to amplify certain aspects of ongoing projects or work on concerns arising from these projects
The DIR-TCAP suggested that these could function like the IAEA Reserve Programme which is used to address emergencies that cannot wait for the next programme cycle

5. Comments of Government Parties on the WG Report
JPN
raised the concern that the proposals or recommendations lack specificity including required resources and financial implications
Noted that until such details are known, JPN would not be in a position to agree to the proposals

6. Actions of the 43rd GCM
The Meeting took note of the WG Report and thanked the WG and the RCARO for their efforts;
endorsed the continuation of the WG and approved the WG schedule of a 2nd meeting;
requested the WG to deliver a report on its program at the 37th NRM ;
noted that it will be essential to demonstrate that adequate resources can be secured prior to considering the expansion of the RCARO’s role
