5 Leadership What ……? ?

6 Leadership: Leadership is the ability to affect on others and direct their behaviours to achieve common objectives.

7 Leadership duties

8 Leadership duties

9 Communication A good team leader will communicate the company’s vision and objectives to the team, making sure that they do so clearly, ensuring that everybody understands their individual roles and responsibilities.

10 .

11 Setting an Example A team leader has the responsibility of setting an example to the team on how to work effectively and "practice what they preach," .

12

13 . Make Decisions An important responsibility of a team leader is to make decisions that help the company achieve its objectives. In doing so, a leader may wish to consult their team through in-depth discussion.

14

15 Individual Development
Every employee will need some degree of training to further their own development and better their skills. It is the duty of the team leader to identify areas where they feel that the individual can improve .

16

17 Motivation A team leader has the task of motivating his or her team to work toward the objective, boosting morale .

18

19 Point of Contact There may be instances where the team has questions or suggestions that they would like to voice, and the team leader would provide a point of contact to take the query/suggestion to higher management for further discussion.

20

21 Rewarding Employees A team leader should reward his employees for consistently good work or an outstanding contribution to the organization. This will boost morale and help them feel more like part of a team.

22 A Leader : He is the one who uses his power and authority to affect on the individuals' behaviours and directions to achieve certain goals

23 Leader Every single letter of this word can simply refer to one of the main characteristics of leaders.

24 D= developing with colleagues
Leader A = awareness E = example L = listening E = energy D= developing with colleagues R= readiness

25 L = listening A leader teacher must be a good listener. Leaders cannot foster a learning environment unless they listen to all the people around them. You cannot learn unless you listen -- to colleagues, to students, to developments in your field.

26 E = energy As a leader , you must love what you do, you must be energized , open-minded , dedicated and flexible . You shouldn't complain about things that are not happening but be proud of what is happening .

27 A = awareness He must be aware of: What is happening around him. What is required. What to do and when. The people around him (their talents, potentials, etc..) The value of time.

28 D= developing with colleagues
The leader is someone who is ready to develop himself and his colleagues and is ready to build a community of learners. He is able to make other leaders . It is very important to realize that teaching leading is done “with people,” not “to people.” The leader must identify strengths in others and encourage them to develop and use their talents , provide guidance , advice , and support to colleagues .

29 A teacher leader is similar to a musician in a symphony orchestra.
E = example The leader should be a role model and a walking example of his colleagues to follow . Teacher leaders are always ready to mentor new teachers and set as models for their colleagues. A teacher leader is similar to a musician in a symphony orchestra.

30 R= readiness One of the most important daily tasks of a leader is to develop leaders. Leader development for many is a challenge. It requires you to trust others. It requires you to allow others to perhaps fail in order to learn. Can you accept that? Are you ready to accept a small failure to develop a future leader?  If you answer yes , you will succeed if you answer no , perhaps you won't.

31 The directive (or autocratic) style The non directive style
Leadership Styles The democratic style The directive (or autocratic) style The non directive style

32 Leadership Styles The democratic style
The leader may offer suggestions, and sometimes help do the work, he actively encourages member participation and decision making. For example, the leader says, “Let’s go,” “Let’s find out,” “How shall we best do this?” The leader takes an active part in department affairs, and enjoys being a leader, but does not control department decisions or have a feeling of owning the department .

33 The directive (or autocratic) style
Leadership Styles The directive (or autocratic) style The leader may do all the planning and decision making and inform members of the plan.

34 The non directive style
Leadership Styles The non directive style To sit back and make no decisions for the group

35 Leadership Styles No—each style is useful and appropriate at different times, depending on the situation. The trick is to find the one that works best for you and your group. It appears that a good leader is neither too autocratic, nor too democratic

36 Task One

37 Five things that can help you become a great leader
Leaders Achieve Successful Results  By challenging themselves and people on their team. By challenging conventional methods. By being creative and innovative in solving problems. By taking risks and tough decisions in consultation with each other.

38 2. Leaders Build and Sustain Systems
By creating a minimal set of fair ground rules. By creating champions and successors in every sphere (field).

39 3. Leaders Create Leaders
By giving their people both challenging as well as rewarding/fulfilling tasks & celebrating their successes By empowering them to take difficult decisions. By exciting them about work and opportunities that lie ahead by showing them the big picture

40 3. Leaders Create Leaders
By guiding and coaching them. By encouraging diverse, opposite, nonconformist views (no yes-men needed here!) By building on each individual’s strengths .

41 4. Leaders Do Four T’s  Tolerate ambiguity & uncertainty. Tolerate mistakes. Tolerate failure. Tolerate dissent/challenge to their ideas and leadership.

42 5. Leaders Take Care of Themselves
By believing that they have a legitimate role to play in wherever they are. By knowing themselves better, their insecurities and blind spots By listening to their gut and trusting their instincts while remaining humble. By creating a work-life balance.

43 Task 2

44 The pitfalls of leadership
Dictatorship Negligence Pride, rejecting criticism. Absence of objective in mind Appointing a weak deputy The loss of the features of the good example in the leader's personality Stop developing the talents , and renewing personal knowledge Permanent yield to the wishes of individuals.
