Motivation Evolution of Intelligent transportation market:
Internet of Things growth prediction: João Sarraipa ICIST 2018
3
Motivation Internet of Things is an important part of the fourth Industrial Revolution, while Transportation is an important application direction; In both areas (Manufacturing and Transportation): Huge amount of information/data delivered by the sensors, which need to be turned into knowledge; Lack of middleware platforms bridging various stakeholders such as service providers, consumers or developers; There is the need to shift from the device-centric to user-centric paradigm, which is the case of vf-OS; João Sarraipa ICIST 2018
4
Research Question After analysing existing solutions and relevant gaps between bot vf-OS and Optimum projects, the work proposed here aims at addressing the following research question: What kind of a “collaborative” platform is needed to cope orchestration of instances within heterogeneous, high distributed manufacturing and logistics environment with focus on particular needs of different users’ groups? The hypothesis is to integrate vf-OS approach for FIWARE use into Optimum solution João Sarraipa ICIST 2018
5
OPTIMUM Description OPTIMUM goals:
Development of Intelligent transportation System platform, targeting following issues: scalable architecture for the management and processing of multisource big data; continuous monitoring of transportation system needs; proactive decisions and actions in a semi-automated way; introducing and promoting interoperability, adaptability and dynamicity. Scenario oriented goals (toll Pricing scenario): Development of a dynamic toll price model for highways; Integration of related data from different sources (car and road sensors, whether reports, etc.) João Sarraipa ICIST 2018
6
Optimum Data Processing Pipeline
One of the core deliverables of OPTIMUM project will be the Data Processing Pipeline intended to make use of raw data from different sources, it consists of: Data Adapters to deal with heterogeneity of sources; DB to store the raw data; Harmonization module to extract knowledge and prepare data for further consumption by applications; and then an DB to store the harmonized data. Representation of Enablers Framework
Enablers framework is one of the vf-OS components which has the following core modules: service discovery to explore and find needed functionality; request-handler allows users to interrelate physical entity, for instance sensor, with enabler; registration and configuration to register the new added enablers, users and services; storage covering issues related to maintain acquired data; open API‘s for third parties applications. João Sarraipa ICIST 2018

11
Description of vf-OS Data Management Component
The focus of the proposed DMC is on providing a data bus to support other vf-OS subcomponents with functionalities for data storage; data transformation; and analytic operations; João Sarraipa ICIST 2018
12
OPTIMUM and vf-OS integration points
OPTIMUM could use one of several IoT middleware provided by Data Management Component (DMC); utilization and reusage of existing Generic as well Specific Enablers (GE/SE); utilization of vf-OS data management approaches; adoption of Enablers Framework (EF) in order to manage connections among GE‘s, SE‘s as well as possible Enablers developed to cover specific needs of OPTIMUM; João Sarraipa ICIST 2018
13
vf-OS and OPTIMUM integration

14
Advantages of vf-OS and OPTIMUM integration
Benefits: ability to acquire needed functionality as a service without need to implement it again; possibility to reduce the load on Data Processing Pipeline by sharing the workload with vf-OS components (for instance Enablers Framework can cover management tasks around Fiware Enablers); through implementation of modular principle, Data Processing pipeline can request only needed library or module; implementation of a distributed architecture with introduction of parallel tasks accomplishment. João Sarraipa ICIST 2018
15
Conclusion Transportation and Logistics, are areas which can benefit from rapidly developing technologies of Industrial Internet (FoF); vf-OS project can provide benefits to a transportation business case, currently being addressed by OPTIMUM project; vf-OS provides reliable platform corresponding to key requirements, such as virtualization of underlying processes and serves as a middleware between enablers’ provider and enablers consumers (applications) data handling can be covered through adoption of DMC providing various services in the area of data harmonization and analytics.
