2 Runoff Water that does not soak into the ground or evaporate, but flows across the Earth’s surface.

3 Factors Affecting Runoff:
Amount of rain Length of time that rain falls Steepness of land Vegetation

4 Groundwater Water that soaks into the ground collects in pores and empty space between sediment particles. Approximately 14% of all fresh water is groundwater.

5 Permeable vs. Impermeable
Permeable has connected pores and space for water to flow underground. Impermeable pores or spaces are not connect and do not allow water to flow.

6 Groundwater movement Aquifer- a layer of permeable sediment that allows water to flow freely. Area that completely saturated with water is the water table.

7 Ground Water Ground water includes: Wells, Springs, and Geysers
