Runoff Water that does not soak into the ground or evaporate, but flows across the Earth’s surface.

Amount of rain Length of time that rain falls Steepness of land Vegetation

Groundwater Water that soaks into the ground collects in pores and empty space between sediment particles. Approximately 14% of all fresh water is groundwater.

Permeable vs. Impermeable
Permeable has connected pores and space for water to flow underground. Impermeable pores or spaces are not connect and do not allow water to flow.

Groundwater movement Aquifer- a layer of permeable sediment that allows water to flow freely. Area that completely saturated with water is the water table.
