The Carbon-Oxygen Cycle
Chapter 4 Section 2 The Carbon-Oxygen Cycle
2
Photosynthesis Plants take energy from the sun and use it to make food. What do plants need to live?
3
What do plants need to live?
Sun Water Carbon dioxide
4
What are the only organelles that plants have that animal cells do not?
Chloroplasts: It makes the plant cell energy (food). It is where photosynthesis takes place
5
Chlorophyll is a green pigment that captures sunlight.
Chlorophyll turns sunlight it into food for the plant. All of this happens in the chloroplasts.
6
Photosynthesis Reaction
7
Hungry Why do you feel hungry?
8
Cellular Respiration Animal cells use oxygen to break down food for energy.
9
Cellular Respiration Reaction
10
Cellular Respiration Location
In which organelle?
11
Relationship What do you notice about the relationship of photosynthesis and cellular respiration?
12
Fermentation Cells can get energy without using oxygen.
BUT, not as efficient.
13
Fermentation Cells make less energy (ATP). Cells produce lactic acid.
That is why muscles hurt when you run or work out too hard.
