2. Important Things To Know
Your student is attending outdoor school, not “camp”. They will be engaged in activities designed to help them develop skills in:
Math
Science
Language arts
Social Studies
Music
Art
Physical Education
Social/Emotional learning
All school rules and behavior expectations apply.
Approximately 2500 students attend Outdoor School at Waskowitz every year. The vast majority have an incredible, even life changing experience!

4. Waskowitz: Logistics and History
Built in 1935 as a Civilian Conservation Corps Camp.
Now owned and operated by the Highline School District.
Located approximately 45 min. from the South Seattle area, just outside of North Bend off of I-90.
Home to cutting edge Outdoor and Environmental Education for 71 years!

5. Life at Waskowitz: Cabin Groups
Boys cabins are girls cabins are separate.
Comfortably hold students per week.
Bathrooms are in the same building.
Focus on respect, communication, and teamwork.
Supported by High School student leaders, in addition to adult staff supervision at all times.

6. High School Leaders Waskowitz Environmental Leadership School Students
One Week Leader program
All leaders receive multiple days of training designed to prepare them to be positive role models, ensure safety, and provide an incredible and fun learning community for 6th grade students.
Sophomores and up

9. Life at Waskowitz: Food and Meal Programs
Three large and varied meals a day
Do not send extra food with your student

Please contact us directly and/or attend our open house if you have additional concerns
Meal programs, provided by staff, teachers and high school leaders after each meal

10. Health and Well Being Send only necessary medications.
All medications must be recorded on the provided Medical forms, and require your Doctor’s signature/consent.
Medications must be in their original container.
A registered nurse is on- site or on call every day.
All staff have CPR and 1st aid training.
If illness occurs, you will be notified to transport your student home.

11. The Role of Parents/Guardians
Make sure your child is prepared for their entire week.
Important items to send with your child include
a rain coat with a hood
warm hat
sturdy shoes
sleeping bag or blankets
A complete supply list will be sent home with permission slips.
Sending many additional and or unnecessary items make moving packing, and unpacking more difficult for your student.
If your students lacks something important, we will loan them the needed items to ensure that they are comfortable and safe.
We know that you will miss your child while they are attending Outdoor School, but please support us in letting them take these very first steps toward independence. Let them be physically and emotionally present for an awesome week at Waskowitz!

12. Strategies For Success!
Read ALL information that comes home with your student.
Talk with your child’s teacher about your questions and concerns.
Attend a Waskowitz Open House. Details at:
Remind your student that this is still school.
Communicate your positive support to your child.
Communicate your student’s personal issues with their teacher (bed wetting, separation anxiety, picky eating).
