Day 4 10/21/10 Topic: Accelerated Motion Diagrams
Objective: I will analyze accelerated motion using a motion diagram with acceleration arrows Science Starter: Next slide
2
Science Starter . What did you need to do to obtain the x-t graph shown: Motion diagram:
3
Acceleration Arrows In addition to the position and velocity of the object we can also represent the acceleration of the object on the motion diagram. The length of the acceleration vector is proportional to the difference between the two velocity vectors.
4
A car starts from rest and speeds up
A car starts from rest and speeds up. The direction of the acceleration is in the same direction as the direction of its velocity.
5
A car slows down to a stop
A car slows down to a stop. The direction of the acceleration is opposite to the direction of the car’s velocity.
6
A ball rolls down a ramp, increasing its speed as it moves down the ramp. Note: motion diagrams are usually drawn parallel to the direction of motion.

Practice 2.4: Acceleration
Complete remaining problem for grade.
