1 Navigating Information Sharing Across Agencies
BOSTON: Information Sharing Objectives in Comprehensive Plan Expanded IS within public safety and human services and across these two sectors was an essential component. Desire to create institutionalized IS sharing systems not reliant on personal relationships, develop the time and space needed for quality IS, and expand the use of technology and social media to gather and communicate information to stakeholders. Comprehensive Plan Objectives: Improve IS systems within agencies Support information flow between agencies Grow information flow within coalitions of agencies Create written agreements, policies and procedures, and technology to create connectivity

2 Pre-Plan Challenges Assets
Boston Regional Intelligence Center (BRIC)—crime and homeland security fusion center for Metro Boston, housed within the Boston Police Department. The hub for information sharing for law enforcement/public safety agencies. Existing IS systems within many agencies Significant flow of information between law enforcement agencies via the BRIC, and pushing out of information to social service providers by the BRIC Strong relationships and collaborations between agencies and at the street level Multiple coalitions and collaborations in place focusing on Challenges Institutionalizing information sharing beyond personal relationships Agreements, policies, procedures, and protocols Linkages of systems Need for investment in technology and IS systems Need for information sharing at multiple levels—aggregate to identify needs and trends; individual or case specific to provide services Wider dissemination of information—broaden the audience
