Abundance and Stable Carbon Analysis of PFLAs in Association with Methane Hydrates in the Arctic Ocean Randolph Larsen, Chemistry & Biochemistry, St. Mary’s College of Maryland The 2009 MITAS research expedition was an integrated geophysics, geochemistry, and microbiology research plan designed to address the relative contributions of permafrost and coastal hydrate contributions to the sediment and water column carbon cycling. Piston coring and vibrocoring were conducted along the US coast of the Beaufort Sea aboard the USCGC Polar Sea. Piston Core Sampling Sites Samples from each core were collected for analysis of Biochemical markers to better understand carbon cycling associated with methane hydrates.
