After the ship struck the iceberg, Margaret helped others to get into lifeboats before she was pushed in one herself. In the lifeboat, she helped everyone keep their spirits up.

When the iceberg hit the ship, he ran to the decks but the crew locked the gate. A passenger broke the lock, so he got to the lifeboats and was saved.
