2 Overview of Session What is a Global Grant?
What are District Designated Funds (DDF)? What a Club must do to qualify for a Global Grant (GG) from RI? Types of Project – Areas of focus Project Planning What is the process? What resources are available to assist club.

DDF = District Designated Funds GG & DG – Grant types (Global and District) DG = District Governor MOU = Memorandum of Understanding NGOs = Non-Governmental Organizations TRF= The Rotary Foundation VTT = Vocational Training Team WF = Rotary International World Fund DRFC = District Rotary Foundation Chair

4 What types of Global Grants are available?
Humanitarian Projects Budget, minimum $30,000, TRF match, minimum $15,000, max $200,000 VTT or Vocational Training Teams Budget, up to $30,000, using DDF and TRF Scholars, Budget, up to $15,000, using DDF w/ TRF match District 6270 has funded VTT and a Scholarship in alternate years, depending on available funds

5 What are District Designated Funds?
Annual DDF consists of one half of the funds donated to TRF by D 6270 Clubs and individuals during the fourth previous fiscal year. At the end of each 3 year period, one half of the amount contributed within the District goes to the District. The other one half goes to the WF. Referred to as “Shared” funds. TRF uses the interest income on those funds to support its operations In 2014, TRF determined the investment income was not sufficient to cover operating costs

TRF created a reserve fund that when the investment return does not cover operating expenses Effective July 1, 2015, Global Grant awards have been required to fund that reserve with 5% of cash contributions 5% of annual fund contributions (matching) 10% or less of selected corporate gifts (>$10,000)

8 To Qualify for a Global Grant
At least 2 Club Rotarians must attend an Annual District hosted Global Grant Management Seminar. Club has contributed at least $1000/year for the last 2 years. Must enter into a MOU (valid for ONE year) Responsible for use funds regardless of who controls them Appoint a member/committee to implement, manage and maintain club qualification

9 Qualifying for a Global Grant con’t
Written financial management plan, including accounts and maintenance of records for items purchased, produced or distributed; Ensure that all grant activities comply with local law Bank account requirements Adhere to all TRF reporting requirements Cooperate in any reviews or audits Report to the District any potential or actual misuse or mismanagement of grant funds

11 Recent TRF Changes in Global Grants
Global Grants can now include: Constructing low cost shelters Constructing simple schools (2-3 classrooms) Guidelines for each, with sample Applications are posted on the Rotary Foundation Website, I have copies

12 Identify who will implement the project
Project Planning Locate and Identify a Host Rotary Club within one of the Areas of Focus Identify who will implement the project Determine funding sources of fundraising goals Develop project management timeline 3 legged stool

13 COMMUNITY NEEDS ASSESSMENT
Must be conducted with the Host club See: Community Assessment Tools (located – ) Discusses six community Assessment tools Identifies recommended stakeholders for each Area of Focus Results of community needs assessment must be included in application for Global Grant I have a copy should anyone wish to see it

14 ADDITIONAL PROJECT PLANNING
Develop a realistic budget for project Create a financial management plan Create a document retention plan: a minimum of 7 years Create a contingency plan -- urged

15 Financial Management Plan
Separate bank account, no co-mingling of funds Accounting must track all income and expenses Need paper trail – invoices, receipts, checks, credit card statements (make copies, as some receipt ink fades) Good accounting and paper trail will be needed for the reports to TRF

16 Rotarian cash contributions are matched 50% by TRF
Global Grant Funding DDF are matched 100% by TRF Rotarian cash contributions are matched 50% by TRF Non-Rotarian cash contributions (can be matched if donation is made through a Rotary Club). Funds cannot come from other Rotary grants.

18 Process for Application DDF
If requesting DDF, go to District website and download the GG Preliminary Information Sheet Complete that form and submit it to John Hein, (District Global Grant Committee Chair) District GG committee will evaluate, give recommendations and approve of DDF amount. District committee members are here to help and guide.

19 Application for Global Grant
If the project is within TRF guide lines, the DG and the District Rotary Foundation Chair (DRFC) will be asked to sign off and approve the allocation of DDF. Complete the TRF on-line application on the TRF website and a GG Project Number will be assigned. TRF staff will review the project in detail. If it meets “The Terms and Conditions” for Global Grants, they will recommend acceptance and funding approval for the project. Pedestrian Bridge example: agronomist improved the project
