1 Wednesday, April 6, 2016 Do Now:
Take out intro paragraph rough draft & notelogs. Homework: Typed intro and first body paragraph are due tomorrow. Obj: Write a paragraph that introduces a claim, acknowledges and distinguishes the claim from alternate claims, and organize the reasons and evidence logically.

2 Today’s Procedures Proofread/ fix Introductory paragraph
See how to organize evidence from TWO sources into one paragraph Write first body paragraph

3 Is this intro strong, engaging, informative, and specific enough?
“Suppose that in some future society, part of the population, say 10 percent, became hugely intelligent, while the rest stayed where we are now or even dropped behind a bit” (Wolchover 3). This would be crazy. But if people get their intelligence increased, they will end up like Charlie because it will impact their social lives and help them improve the future.

4 Is this intro strong, engaging, informative, and specific enough?
“Suppose that in some future society, part of the population, say 10 percent, became hugely intelligent, while the rest stayed where we are now or even dropped behind a bit” (Wolchover 3). Although this idea sounds preposterous, according to Earl Hunt, professor emeritus of psychology at the University of Washington and president of the International Society for Intelligence Research, this is what could happen if people take advantage of a new technology that could increase their intelligence. Neuroscientists have discovered the differences between the brains of people with low and high IQs and believe that now “the concept that intelligence can be increased is reasonable” (Wolchover 1). Clearly, this is not just a make believe idea anymore like it was when Daniel Keyes wrote the sci-fi short story, “Flowers for Algernon” where Charlie Gordon, a mentally challenged man, changed his life by having a surgery that tripled his intelligence. Although Charlie was a fictional character, if people get their intelligence increased, there is a good chance they will end up like Charlie because it will impact their social lives and help them improve the future.
