3 What is BYOD? B ring Y our O wn D evice We define BYOD as a privately-owned, Internet capable electronic device that can be used during the school day to increase student engagement and facilitate learning. Dont limit a child to your own learning, for they were born in another time. -R Tagore

4 Myths about BYOD 1: BYOD deepens the digital divide. 2: BYOD will result in lessons geared toward the weakest device. 3: BYOD will cause students to be distracted. 4: Teachers need to become experts in all the technology students own. 5: BYOD will result in students engaging in dangerous activities. 6: Cell phones are not that powerful, so we should not waste our time with them. 7: BYOD will necessitate the standardization of apps and software across all device.

5 Classroom Management

6 Storage During off-use times the devices will be locked in the classroom.

7 Charging The students should bring their device fully charged each day. However, depending on battery life, the student will need to bring their own charger as one will not be provided. The teacher will have a long powerstrip available to use when needed.

8 Responsibilities of StudentsStudents Abiding by their Digital Drivers License Following the Acceptable Use Policy Bringing device to school charged everyday Proper care and storage of their device Following classroom expectations regarding device Students will connect to Ray-Pec network only

9 Devices Any Internet accessible device is acceptable, however, some will work better than others as a classroom tool.

10 RayPec Acceptable Use Policy All parents and students have to sign the Acceptable Use Policy. This must be signed in order for your child to participate.

11 Digital Drivers License The expectation is that students will complete teacher-guided exercises to earn a DDL. This will promote digital citizenship.
