This presentation will discuss the Agency’s new Michigan Web Account Manager, or MiWAM, which was implemented in August of MiWAM replaced the Employer Web Account Manager that had been available for employers previously. You can print a copy of this presentation and follow along by accessing the Presentation Resources section on the top right corner of this webcast.

Finding MiWAM on the UIA Website
A link to MiWAM is available on the home page of the UIA website and also under the Employer’s tab. First we will cover how to locate the link on the main page of the UIA website.
3
Step 1 Access the website: www.michigan.gov/uia
Access the UIA’s website at Click on “UIA Online Services for Employers,” which is located in the middle of the page. This link will show the MiWAM icon which has a green circular background with the state of Michigan image on it.
4
Step 2 – Finding MiWAM Selecting the MiWAM link on the UIA homepage will take you to a secondary web page with two options, Register a Business, and Operate a Business. The Register a Business link will take you to the Michigan Business One Stop site, where you can register a new business, or report a business transfer. Click on “Operate a Business,” to access the sign in page for MiWAM.
5
MIWAM - Sign In Page The MiWAM sign in page has three main parts. The left hand side of the web page is the navigation pane that you will see throughout the MiWAM application. We will cover this navigation pane later in this presentation. In the middle of the screen you will see a section labeled “Log in to MiWAM.” If you have already registered for MiWAM, this is where you will enter your username and password, then select the Sign In button to access your MiWAM account. On the right hand side of the web page is a button labeled Sign Up Now! If you haven’t already registered for a MiWAM account, this is the link you should select.

Registering for a MiWAM Account
Next we will be covering the steps to register for a MiWAM account.
18
Step 1 - Registering If you do not have a MiWAM account, select Sign Up Now!
19
Step 2 - Registering The legend on the right side of the screen refers to navigation tips you can use throughout MiWAM. For example, any time a blue “I” is shown within MiWAM, you can click on it for definitions or helpful hints which will be displayed in a pop-up window. As you proceed through a process such as registering for a MiWAM account, you will see the steps that need to be completed. As you complete a step, if all the required information is complete and passes validations, you will see a green check mark next to that step. If there is missing information or the information provided fails validations, you will see a red X next to the step that contains the errors. All errors must be corrected before you can proceed to the next step in the process. To start the registration process for a MiWAM account, select the Start Here button for Step 1.
20
Step 3 - Registering After selecting the Start Here button, you will be presented with a pop-up window that offers three types of MiWAM accounts you can establish. Please read the descriptions and select the one that best describes how you intend to utilize MiWAM. The most common selection is going to be for an employer MiWAM account. When you select Employer, you will be asked if you will be acting as a service provider for other employers in Michigan. Select either yes or no. If you have multiple UIA employer accounts for which you will be performing services, even if they have common ownership, select yes. This will allow you to access all of those accounts through one username and password. An address can only be associated with one MiWAM account. Next you must enter your 10-digit UIA account number, the zip code of the physical location of your business, and your Federal Employer Identification Number (FEIN). If any field turns red, there is a mismatch in the data entered. Please verify your entries and correct any errors. You will not be allowed to proceed until the error is corrected.
21
Step 3 – Error Message MiWAMSupport@michigan.gov (313) 456-2188
If the UIA account number and zip code in UIA’s records don’t match the UIA account number and zip code you entered, or if the UIA employer account number you entered is not in an active status, you will receive an error message. Make sure you are entering the 10-digit UIA account number and the zip code for the physical location of the business. Please contact MiWAM Support at (313) or via at if you believe you have received this message in error. (313)
22
Step 4 - Registering If you select Employer Representative as the MiWAM Sign-Up Reason, you will be asked if you are currently registered for UIA taxes. If you answer yes, you must enter your 10-digit UIA account number, the zip code of the physical location of your business, and YOUR Federal Employer Identification Number.
23
Step 4 – Error Message Once again, if the UIA account number and zip code in UIA’s records don’t match what you entered, or the UIA employer account number you entered is not in an active status, the field will turn red, and you will receive the error message.
24
Step 5 - Registering If you select the option of Employer Representative and you answer “No” to the question about whether you have a UIA employer account number, you are then asked if you are required to have a Federal Employer ID Number to conduct business. If you answer yes to this question, you must to enter the UIA employer account number and physical address zip code of one of your clients for whom you will be performing services using MiWAM. The FEIN that is required is your FEIN not your client’s.
25
Step 6 - Registering If you answer “No” to the question about whether you are required to have a FEIN to conduct business, then you are required to enter the UIA employer account number and physical address zip code of one of your clients that you will be performing services for using MiWAM. You must enter your Social Security Number - not your client’s. If the 10-digit UIA account number and zip code entered do not match what is in UIA’s system, you will receive the same error message as shown on step 3 and 4. Please verify your entries and correct any errors. You will not be allowed to proceed until the error is corrected.
26
Step 7 - Registering The Employee option should be selected when you are establishing a MIWAM account because you have been added as a user by an owner of a MiWAM account. Prior to registering for the account, the added user should have received an with the Authorization Code requested for an Employee. Upon submission of the Authorization Code, the employee will create their own username and password.
27
Step 8 - Registering Once you have completed Step 1 successfully, you will need to provide the contact information for the person who will be the owner of the MiWAM account. Any fields that are yellow are required to be completed. The address entered must match an address on an existing MiWAM account, or you will receive an error message and will not be able to proceed with registering.
28
Step 9 - Registering Next, you will select your username, password, and secret question and answer. Please note the rules for your username and password provided on the right-hand side of the web page. The arrow at the end of the Secret Question field indicates that there is a drop-down list for selecting your secret question. Select a secret question and enter your response.
29
Step Registering The final step is to read the Security Agreement. To establish your MiWAM account you must agree to the security agreement. Once you have done that and entered your agreement, select the submit button to establish your MiWAM account.
30
Step Registering You will receive a confirmation page with your username and confirmation number.
31
You are now ready to begin using your MiWAM account with temporary access.
If you have registered for an employer account, for the next 10 calendar days you may submit Form UIA 1028 and make tax or reimbursement payments through your MiWAM account. If you registered as an Employer Representative with a UIA employer account, you will have temporary access for the next 10 calendar days to submit Form UIA 1028 and make tax or reimbursement payments for your tax account only. Once you have established your MiWAM account, look for your Authorization code to be mailed to your business location within the next 7-10 business days. Once you receive your authorization code, enter it on the MiWAM sign in page to activate all of the features of your MiWAM account. If you do not receive the authorization code within 10 business days, you can utilize the Lost/Never Received Authorization Code button on the MiWAM sign in page to generate another authorization code.
32
MiWAM Toolkit The MiWAM Toolkit provides helpful information to successfully navigate MiWAM, the file formats utilized within the system, how to obtain MiWAM access for your clients, and submission of client files. You can find the MiWAM toolkit at michigan.gov/uia by selecting “Michigan Web Account Manager is live.”
