8. Strategic approach to pharmaceuticals in the environment (PIE)
Stakeholder and public consultation outputs: 92 inputs to stakeholder consultation, 405 to public consultation. Some overlap, i.e. some respondents submitted responses to both.
A high number from the water treatment industry and from DE (COM interpreting results).
Strategic approach has been drafted, and is currently being reviewed internally in the Commission.
possible areas of action: reducing non-essential use, greening design and manufacture, improving environmental risk assessment, reducing waste & improving waste handling, expanding monitoring, and filling other knowledge gaps (other than those tackled under the specific areas).
Aim to finalise the approach in the forthcoming period.
