Benefits of being a club member
You will receive: Physics Today (monthly). The SPS Observer (quarterly). Journal of Undergraduate Research in Physics (online). Access to the SPS Jobs site and Careers Using Physics (CUP) website Eligibility for SPS scholarships, internships, research & travel grants, fellowships and other awards. Information and announcements about regional, national and international SPS meetings. Information and announcements about SPS research sessions at professional society meetings. Free membership with one AIP Member Society for undergraduates only, for up to three years.

Purpose and Mission The SPS exists to help students transform themselves into contributing members of the professional community. Course work develops only one range of skills. Other skills needed to flourish professionally include effective communication and personal interactions, leadership experience, establishing a personal network of contacts, presenting scholarly work in professional meetings and journals, and outreach services to the campus and local communities.

Activities Big Sur Marathon – Spring, : One of the main volunteer projects for the club; Club members do litter cleanup along the course Hartnell Family Science Day - Spring: Hartnell event where Mathematics and Science Faculty, along with SPS provide an educational fair about science. Physics Olympics – Spring Physics club members participate in and help out with daylong outreach and competitive activities with the high schools. Big Sur 1/2 Marathon - Fall: Club members do course cleanup. Hartnell Christmas Tree Decorating Contest - Fall: School sponsored event, where school administration judges club decorated trees. Trees are donated to Needy Families. Planetarium Demos – Year round: Physics club members give demonstrations to the public night on Fridays after the planetarium show. Physics Club Outreach – Year Round: Club members do physics outreach to local elementary schools. Field Trips, bowling, soccer, movies, …..
