Revision Practice

Introductions Read the introductions on the following slides and see if you can offer any helpful suggestions to the students who wrote them.

Student 1 Hydraulic fracking is a controversial oil and gas extraction technique developed in the late 1940s to gain access to fossil energy deposits previously inaccessible to drilling operations. Fracking is a method that involves drilling thousands of feet into the earth while a mixture of water and chemicals are directed at a rock to release gases inside. This is done at very high pressure to allow the gases trapped inside the rocks to flow up to the surface, which is then transferred into pipelines that distribute the gas. Fuel is a very important resource, but if the risk outweighs the reward, fracking should not be done. There are many negative side effects that are produced in result of hydraulic fracturing; furthermore, it contaminates the water supply, pollutes the ozone and causes earthquakes. Fracking is very hazardous to the economy and should be made illegal.

Possible Criticisms: Cite the source that the background info came from. Is Fracking dangerous to the economy or dangerous to the environment? The distinction is important

Student 2 Education is one important step in every childrens' life, so children should have the opprtunity to have an education starting at a young age. Children would have a huge advantage if being success in school later on. All children should have universal preschool; and have the opportunity to learn and be prepare for their future.
