1 Obj. 6 Pairs of Angles Objectives: Identify linear pairs
vertical angles complementary angles supplementary angles and set up and solve equations.

2 Tabbed Booklet Align your sheets so that the edges are about 1" apart (in any order). Fold the sheets so that the edge of the top sheet is about 1" from the bottom of the top sheet. Staple twice about ¼" from the top of the fold. On the top sheet write “Pairs of Angles” fold Supplementary Angles Complementary Angles Vertical Angles Linear Pair Adjacent Angles Pairs of Angles

3 adjacent angles linear pair
Two angles in the same plane with a common vertex and a common side, but no common interior points. Example: 1 and 2 are adjacent angles. Two adjacent angles whose noncommon sides are opposite rays. (They form a line.) 1 2

4 1 and 4 are vertical angles 2 and 3 are vertical angles
Two nonadjacent angles formed by two intersecting lines. They are always congruent. Example: 1 and 4 are vertical angles 2 and 3 are vertical angles 1 2 3 4

5 complementary angles supplementary angles
Two angles whose measures have the sum of 90º. Two angles whose measures have the sum of 180º. A and B are complementary. (55+35) A and C are supplementary. (55+125) A 55º B 35º C 125º

6 Practice What is m1? 180 – 60 = 120˚ What is m2? 90 – 51 = 39˚
105˚ 1 60˚ 51˚ 2 105˚ 3

7 Patty Paper Practice Take your piece of patty paper and fold it any which way. Open it back up. Fold it so that the line overlaps itself. This creates a right angle. Open it back up and fold it again, being sure to cross one of the other folds. Open it once again. Fold it so that the line goes through one of the right angles.

8 Patty Paper Practice Identify and number the following angle pairs
Put your name on your paper and exchange papers with someone else. Check each other’s work (use your notes to settle any disagreements). Turn in your papers. Angle Pair Angle Numbers Adjacent angles 1, 2 Linear pair 3,4 Vertical angles 5, 6 Complementary angles 7, 8 Supplementary angles 9, 10
