1 Bedfordshire Adult Learning Disability Teams
What happens when needs change? This is an integrated team of social workers, community nurses and support workers. I have worked for the team for just over a year and would like to tell you about some of the positive work I have seen within that time when supporting people with autism. It should be noted that the ALDT is not the only team that supports people with autism, our colleagues in the physical disabilities team and older people’s team also support people. It is BBC’ aim to ensure all staff are trained in autism awareness. In reality we are the team within Adult Social Care with the greatest number of clients with autism and will offer advice/complete joint visits with other teams We do not know when we are going to come into contact with someone with autism. We recognise that we do not know everything about autism and we will seek advice from our colleagues in the diagnostic service if we are not sure how best to support an individual.
