2 Outline Status of AICC Metadata Future Approved document LOM based
What is different Future

3 Approved Document Draft 2.3 was approved
Release 1.0 created after approval Dated June – available now on AICC web site Compatible superset of the LOM (IEEE Learning Object Metadata standard) Contains References to all LOM data elements Clarifications and definitions LOM elements AICC extensions

4 Status Continued In St. Louis help was requested to develop an XML Schema to support the White paper AGR discussions Should there be a separate AGR or should it be part of a LCMS AGR Bill Shook took action item to draft metadata AGR Guy Tourigney agreed to be Co-Lead

5 AICC vs LOM AICC Metadata is a superset of LOM
LOM elements not used by the AICC: general.coverage educational.semantic density educational.typical age range

6 LOM Support All LOM elements have the same name
All LOM elements have the same data type All LOM elements include the same vocabulary with some elements containing additional vocabulary tokens All LOM elements and vocabulary tokens have the same definitions (to the best of our understanding) Where ambiguous, missing or incomplete, the AICC attempted to expand the definitions for better clarity and interoperability. We did not attempt to change the definitions.

7 AICC Expansions Examples of all categories and elements in XML instances (based on SCORM XML) Obligation table New data elements New categories

8 Obligation Table Obligations
M = Mandatory O = Optional NU = Not Used by the AICC Obligation depends upon aggregation level of the learning object being described Training Program Structured Training Package Assignable Unit Launchable Resource Asset

9 AGR review Metadata AGR

10 Next Steps Develop XML Schema
Superset of SCORM schema Need volunteer to create Formally complete AGR and submited for approval Develop best practices guide (tabled for now) Identify new co-lead (Bill Shook current lead) What’s Next for this group

11 AGR approaches Content Developers Tool providers Content Users

12 Metadata AGR Scope This document recommends guidelines for using metadata to describe training content. Metadata is structured data which describes the characteristics of a resource. It shares many similar characteristics to the cataloguing that takes place in libraries, museums and archives. The term "meta" derives from the Greek word denoting a nature of a higher order or more fundamental kind. A metadata record consists of a number of pre-defined elements representing specific attributes of a resource, and each element can have one or more values.

13 Metadata AGR Recommendation
For the developers of aviation training content AICC recommends: Tagging content using the AICC extension to the Learning Object Metadata Schema. All schema elements that are indicated as Mandatory must be populated.
