Naive pluripotent mouse ESCs and primed pluripotent mouse EpiSCs can be derived from pre-implantation blastocysts and post-implantation epiblasts, respectively. Both pluripotent cell types have, in principle, the capacity to differentiate to cells representative of the three primary germ layers and ultimately into the cell types in embryonic and adult tissues. Epiblastin A, a recently discovered CK1 inhibitor, was found to reprogram mouse EpiSCs refractory to other treatments to a naive pluripotent state.
