2
Late Cretaceous Food Web
3
Late Cretaceous- period of time
Habitat- natural environment in which a species or group of species lives Food web- natural interconnection of food chains and generally a graphical representation (usually an image) that show a transfer of energy
4
Take out a half sheet of paper please.
Write your name and period Title this sheet “Impact Food Web” Answer the following questions on your half sheet
5
Look at the silhouettes
Look at the silhouettes. Which species are still around and which are gone? With a partner cross out the species that went extinct and are gone You will need to follow some of the lines that show a transfer of energy from species to species Assume the plants are gone for ~6 months
6
What do you notice about the dinosaurs in this web diagram?
Name 3 species from the Cretaceous that survived What factor do you think had the most impact on the survival? (Based on the diagram)
7
4. If humans were present in this food web could we survive after the impact? Why or why not?
8
Look at the four square food web diagram.
Generate arrows showing the transfer of energy from one organism to another Start with the sun (the ultimate source of energy for many but not all organisms)
9
Arrows indicate a transfer of energy
10
Choose a habitat from the four square food web diagram.
5. Which species is likely to go extinct due to an asteroid impact? 6. Which species has the highest probability to survive asteroid impact? 7. Provide a method that would enable the species to survive asteroid impact?
11
On the back of your sheet
Refer to the asteroid impact calculation worksheet With your partner determine the TWO main factors that make asteroid or comet impacts dangerous to life in the universe. Density? Mass? Velocity? Angle of impact? Target Material? Composition? Life is fragile?
