Pope John Paul II ( ), born Karol Józef Wojtyła, was a Polish priest of the Roman Catholic Church and the 265th Pope from 1978 until his death. He was the first non-Italian pope in 455 years. He traveled more than any other pope before him, visiting many of the countries of the world.
