Mall of Egypt is the first shopping destination of its kind in Egypt
Mall of Egypt is the first shopping destination of its kind in Egypt. The mall is owned and managed by Majid Al Futtaim, the leading shopping mall, retail and leisure pioneer across the Middle East and North Africa. Mall of Egypt is located on Wahat Road in 6th of October City. With a gross leasable area (GLA) of 165,000 square meters, Mall of Egypt will house the best local and international retailers including an unmatched high-end fashion offering of the world’s most prestigious brands. Mall of Egypt will feature the finest dining outlets. Moreover, the mall will house major department stores as well as lifestyle, sports, electronics, home furnishing outlets. With direct access to Wahat Road, the mall includes 6,500 car parking spaces. Mall of Egypt’s family leisure offerings include Ski Egypt – Africa’s first indoor skiing slope, a 21 multi-screen VOX Cinemas and a Magic Planet family entertainment center. Sample text (high level project pitch) STRANDBADKIRCHBICHL is a visionary design project involving the construction of a new office building in a remote mountain region of Austria, with a design which reflected the crashing waves coming in from the nearby beach. Great technical skill and knowledge of interior systems was required in order to optimize lighting, acoustics and sound absorption within a very complex curved shaped structure which would not naturally provide this level of performance. This presentation will also be used on the book and on the website to present your project.
7
Main characteristics of this project:
21 multi-screen VOX Cinemas Very high acoustic performance requirements High robustness for partitioning High fire rate requirements All elements of the cinema building external fabric, including the walls, ceilings, external doors, and floor slabs shall be designed to ensure that the given noise limits are not exceeded by existing or future external noise sources.
8
The internal design of the curved ceilings and the specifications of the VOX cinemas were set by Unick consulting LTD who recommended Gyproc solutions for the project. However the competitor (Knauf) offered his solution to replace Gyproc’s systems but they failed to achieve the acoustic performance along with our systems offered solutions integrating robustness, fire resistance and the extreme curved ceiling at this height. Sound insulation = 76 db Fire resistance = 180 min. Partitioning height = 12,600 mm
9
In this project, our team participated with the consultant and the contractor to combine elements of different systems using various plasterboards, metal systems and insulation materials from ISOVER to customize them into unique systems to achieve the required specifications. Products used : Gyproc Fire stop boards UAE Gyproc Duraline boards UAE Rigitone acoustic boards Germany Gypframe metal profiles UAE Gypframe acoustic accessories UK Kimmmco Saudi Arabia Glasswool & Rockwool license Saint-Gobain
10
It was made by three inner layers of 15mm Gyproc Firestop with one outer layer of 15mm Gyproc Duraline board attached from each side of the partitioning wall to a twin Gypframe construction and cross braced by acoustic accessories combined to Galsswool and Rockwool in the cavities. Saint-Gobain different group supply: from Gyproc Middle East, Rigips Germany, British Gypsum and Saint-Gobain Glass Egypt.

Key challenges The following performances combined in one system :
65 db as sound insulation 120 min. fire resistance High robustness for 12,000 mm partitioning heights Execution of curvy designs for very high levelled ceilings Time was very tight to execute these highly specific designs for 21 multi-screen VOX Cinemas The wall thickness is directly proportional to high robust partitioning, it was a challenge to limit the wall thickness to save spaces but keeping high wall robustness Sample text Acoustics and light are the dominating elements in this project. The challenge was to allow maximal use of natural daylight using an unusually large funnel and integrating artificial lighting to complement natural light. The design however also had to provide an excellent level of acoustic performance in a challenging large open plan structure with high windowed ceilings. In addition to a combination of acoustics, sound absorption and light, there was particular emphasis on architecture and functionality through to the final finishing coating (Q4 surface quality) in order to meet the rigorous project standards.

Key achievements Exceeding the required specifications combined in one system: 76 DB Sound insulation 180 min. fire resistance 12,600mm height robustness Being the unique solution provider for 21 multi-screen VOX Cinemas in Egypt as well the main supplier A complete synergy between Specifications teams in Egypt and UAE with the designer to achieve the required specifications and performances. Limiting the walls thickness however keeping the wall robustness Reaching aesthetic designs in the high ceilings Sample text Project delivered to challenging budget and time schedule Discussion throughout the process with the architect to optimize each design phase. Final result combines high standards for design / aesthetics, acoustic comfort, and optimal levels of natural daylight.
