What is mathematical induction
Mathematical induction is used to prove conjectures. More specifically, for this lesson, mathematical induction will be used to prove summation formulas. Steps for induction: Basis Step: Verify that a conjecture ๐ ๐ is true for ๐=1 Inductive Hypothesis: Assume that ๐ ๐ is true for ๐=๐ Inductive Step: Use the assumption to prove that ๐ ๐ is also true for ๐=๐+1

Example Use mathematical induction to prove that the sum of the first ๐ even positive integers is ๐ 2 +๐. That is, prove that โฆ+2๐= ๐ 2 +๐ is true for all positive integers ๐.
