Composition of motion Combining Transformations
Unit 1 – Day 7 Composition of motion Combining Transformations
2
Warm-Up 2 10.29.15 What is the image of X(2, 3) after a dilation of 5?
What is the similarity ratio for the figures below? What is the value of x and y?
3
Warm Up # A size transformation (dilation) with magnitude 4 is applied to a right triangle with legs of length 3 and 4 units. What are the lengths of the three sides of the image triangle? What is the area of the given triangle? What is the area of the image triangle? For standard class, have picture instead.
4
EQ #7 How can we apply compositions of motion to create images?

Composition of Motion Definition: A Composition of Motion is…
is a transformation in which a second transformation is performed on the image of a first transformation. Example: Translation by vector <5,-4> followed by reflection over x-axis Translation: (x, y) (x+5, y-4) Reflection over x-axis: (x, y) (x, -y) Putting them together: (x, y) (x+5, y-4) (x+5, -(y-4)) Written as one transformation: (x, y) (x+5, -y+4)
6
Be Careful! While in some compositions, the order won’t matter, in other’s the order you perform the transformation DOES change the final result. Be sure to read each problem CAREFULLY! ALWAYS go in the order stated!
7
Ex 1: Translate <2, 1> followed by reflection across the x-axis
Write a single NET rule for this composition of motion.
8
Ex 2: Reflect across the x-axis followed by a translation of <2,1>
Write a single NET rule for this composition of motion.
9
Ex 3: Reflect across the line y=x, then rotate 90.
