R=Reword Restate key words from the prompt.

A=Answer Answer the question or questions in the prompt.

C=Cite Textual Evidence
Cite evidence from the text at least two times to support your answer.

When Citing Evidence from the Text
You can write the following to indicate that you are using textual evidence; As stated in the text… According to the text…. The author stated…

E=Explain your Answer Explain your evidence and connect it to your writing in a logical way.

R=Real World Connection
Use a real world example to help explain your answer when appropriate.

Important things to Remember
Analyze the prompt (Understand what the prompt is asking you to do) Background Knowledge: Give a brief explanation of the important points in the text. Answer the questions that should be answered or addressed in the response. Proof: Be sure to use evidence from the text to support your answers or opinions.

Key words in a Prompt & How to Answer
Analyze=Separate into parts Compare=Give similarities and differences Contrast=Give the differences only Define=State a precise meaning Discuss=present background information with supporting/descriptive details Describe=Convey an idea Evaluate=Place judgement, but support using details
