Brave New World Visual Rhetoric Project
2
Visual Rhetoric Essentially, at its very core:
You study images as a way to finding a rational expression of why it exist You avoid understanding the beauty (it’s irrelevant) You examine the relationship between images and what the author wants to say Authors, artists – they all want to accomplish something. They just present the information through unique and different means.
3
Your task… 1: Listen to the song, the lull of the music and the lyrics (if any). Does the song help make the images make any sort of sense? 2: Look at the images, determine what they could mean. What do the photos say to you? REMEMBER: There is no one “right” or “wrong” answer. There is only you and your interpretation. Do not be afraid that you are wrong, ever.
4
Write these questions down…
What is unique or different about the image? What do the colors imply? Is there something secretive about the image? Who would use this sort of imagery (think about propaganda!), or who would fight against the imagery?
