An element is a substance that can not be separated into simpler substances by physical or chemical means.

A pure substance is a substance which there is only one type of particle.

Each element has its own characteristic properties.
These properties include physical and chemical.

5. Identifying Elements by Their Properties
Each element can be identified by their unique set of properties.
No two elements have all the same physical & chemical properties.

Elements are grouped into categories according to shared properties.
There are three major categories of elements: metals, nonmetals, and metalloids.
