A typical course of haemorrhagic fever with renal syndrome (HFRS) can be divided into five distinct phases: febrile, hypotensive, oliguric, polyuric and convalescent. After the infection viral load starts to peak and with the onset of the first clinical symptoms, the antibodies rise. Hallmark laboratory findings that are substantial with development of HFRS are decreases in platelets and urine output and increase in serum creatinine level.
