What are medieval castles?
Medieval castles were used as protection for the lords and king during the wars. They had large walls for protection from there enemy's.

What where castles used for?

Castle defenses Flanking towers Built as part of the curtain wall.
Ramparts Steep banks that slowed down attackers. Curtain walls Walls that surrounded castle buildings, Was used as a shield. Flanking towers Built as part of the curtain wall.

Castle defenses Arrow slit High walls
A narrow vertical slit used to fire arrows at enemy attackers. The slit was made in a certain way that defenders were safe from attack. Moats slowed the enemy down, Made it difficult to tunnel under the castle. High walls Made it difficult for enemy's to climb over them. Battlements Alowed defenders to atack wile still being protected by a wall.
