4. Redo’s and Retakes
Any class assignment that receives a score less than 70% may be corrected and turned in for up to 100% credit. Classwork/homework is about understanding the material!!!!
There is a one week time limit from the date the assignment has been returned to the student to correct and turn it back in for re-grading.
Retakes on quizzes and tests are not offered across the board. If a student has been seeking tutoring/extra help, has no missing assignments, and has been putting forth their best effort in class a test/quiz correction option may be offered. This is on a case by case basis and is completely up to individual teacher discretion.
If a test/quiz correction has been offered to a student, there will be a one week time limit to turn that in for re-grading.
Late work is accepted before the end of a unit. It will receive a 10% reduction from the earned grade.

11. What is RTI? RTI stands for Response to Intervention
This used to titled ‘Homeroom’
In RTI we:
Write down weekly agenda for all classes
Work on vocabulary development
Grade checks
Classroom meetings
Extra help-teacher may pull or student may ask on their own

12. Discipline General Rule: Warning>Detention>Referral
Every infraction is different Ex. Gum v. Defiance
Detentions are held after school. A form will go home for parent signature
If a student is interfering with the learning of other students, they may be asked to leave the room and fill out a ‘Think Sheet’. This will go home for a parent signature.

13. Dress Code
Clothing must cover the entire buttocks. Shirts and tops may not expose bare midriffs, bare shoulders, nor be deeply or narrowly cut in the front, back, or under the arms. Halter tops, spaghetti straps, and strapless tops are not acceptable. Clothing that exposes undergarments will not be tolerated for males or females.
No hats may be worn inside any campus buildings at anytime, except for properly approved occupational safety headgear required for special classes.
Defamatory writing, obscene language or symbols, or symbols of drugs, sex, or alcohol on clothing or jewelry are expressly prohibited.
Bare feet are never acceptable. In the interest of safety, shoes must be worn at all times. Closed shoes are to be worn for any type of physical activity, such as physical education, cheer practice, weight lifting, etc.
Shorts must entirely cover the buttocks.

14. Dress Code, cont.
As a middle school, we have been having issues with young ladies coming to school with clothing that either shows their midriff, their bra straps, or both. We will be cracking down on this. If your student comes home with an alternate t-shirt, please wash it and return it to me, Mrs. Smith. I am the keeper of the dress code t-shirts.

15. Electronic Devices
We are allowing cell phones again this year with the following understandings:
They are not being used without express teacher approval.
They do no detract from/disturb the learning environment during class.
They are not used to cheat on tests/quizzes.
Deer Valley Unified School District does not assume any liability if a device is stolen or broken while at school. A good rule of thumb is that if you can’t afford to lose it, don’t bring it to school.
Teachers may, at any time, revoke electronic device privileges if any of the above conditions are broken.

16. Questions
If a student has a question or issue with grades, classroom procedures, assignments, etc., we encourage them to speak with the teacher first.
If the question or issue is not resolved, we encourage parents and students to contact the teacher. ( is the easiest to answer during the day, but the phone works, as well)
We always encourage open communication between school and home! Please come to your child’s teacher first.
If you have a specific question regarding your child, please fill out the form on the table and I will contact you via information in PowerSchool. If you prefer a different method, please indicate that on the form.
