Development Highlight difference in scores on the rubric.
Using the same highlighter, locate the following and highlight: Evidence from text to support your claim – check for citation. Explanation of the evidence. Score for development: well-chosen, thoroughly and insightfully supports claim, explains and elaborate on evidence, connects the evidence to the claim and counterclaims, clear and insightful understanding of the topic.

Focus & Organization Using the red pen, locate differences for each score for the category. Using the red pen, locate the following: TAG – circle Thesis (Claim) – underline Structure – label each paragraph for purpose – reason, counterclaim, conclusion, etc. Conclusion – bracket

Language Using the black pen, identify the differences in scores for this category. Using the black pen, box sophisticated and/or vocabulary appropriate for the task. Star 2 compound sentences and 2 complex sentences. Locate a Sentences combined or 2 sentences that can be combined with a semicolon. Locate a sentence that is combined or 2 sentences that can be combined using a conjunctive adverb (THAMOS). Circle any informal elements.

Conventions Using a different color highlighter or pen, identify the difference in scores for this category. Using the same utensil, locate errors in conventions: Spelling Sentence construction – punctuation Subject/Verb agreement Parallel structure
