Already many results (e.g. FAQs, fisheries/MPAs, reporting - see annex) More comprehensive and coordinated agenda since 2012 (DK Presidency) First joint Directors' meeting offers opportunity to launch the next phase 2

Objectives Join forces to tackle shared environmental challenges together more effectively Enhance coordination and cooperation (break down silos) Create synergies and avoid trade offs Make best use of limited (financial) resources 3

Coordinated implementation
Promote a common and holistic understanding of the objectives associated with the different policy areas. Joining up forces to make delivery of measures more effective (e.g. on MPA establishment/management) Streamline reporting and data management (e.g. BISE & WISE) Work together on better integration of shared objectives in associated policies (e.g. on making new CAP / CFP deliver on environmental objectives) 4

Ecosystem services (ES)
Link up the Mapping and Assessment of Ecosystems and Ecosystem services under MAES with assessment work under the Directives. Use Green Infrastructure as a tool to help deliver shared objectives. Ensure that 15% restoration target for degraded ecosystems (EUBDS) for fresh- and marine waters is delivered through the respective legislation 5

Financing Ensure shared objectives and priorities are properly integrated at EU and national level in the implementation of EU funding programmes. Use new opportunities such as integrated projects under LIFE and the proposed Natural Capital Funding Facility. Exchange information and best practices. Avoid competing for the same funds. 6

What vision do the Directors have about shared objectives and reinforcing co-operation?
