A problem is a situation you want to change. Problem solving is a process that people use to make decisions. “When your happiness comes primarily from the happiness of others, you know you have moved from a 'me' experience to a 'we' experience. Problem Solving Model Step 1 – Identify the Problem
A clear problem statement contains the following characteristics: Describes the current problem that needs to be solved States the desired outcome States specifics – supported by data, if available Step 2 – Identify the Root Cause Possible causes – the most crucial step The root cause answers the “because” of the problem statement

Step 3 – Generate Possible Solutions Brainstorm ideas of possible solutions Pick the preferred solutions Step 4 – Analyze Possible Solutions Weigh the pros and cons Analyze top 3 potential solutions

Step 5 – Decide on a Plan An action plan establishes a written record of accountability for implementation and increases the likelihood that ongoing monitoring will occur. Step 6 – Implement the Plan Do it! Step 7 – Evaluate the Plan How effective was the plan? Does the existing plan need to be revised? Is a new plan needed to better address the problem?
