Introduction Sex ratio at birth: Statistical indicator computed as: The number of boys being born per one hundred girls (UNFPA). Normal SBR: boys every 100 girls Important demographic indicator Doubling-time of population Critical demographic measures Trends in infant morbidity (low birth weight, mortality male infants…)

Discussion 2005 – 2008, SBR is 112.3, equivalently to the national rate (111/100 – VPHC, 2009) Parents choose sex of child (boy) at the first child (114/100) or the 3th one and above (176/100) SBR is highly related to the sex of preceding child/children, mother’s education, occupation and SES.
