1 Creating a Playbill

2 Why do plays need programs?
Why do shows have them? What can you learn from a program? What would you miss if you didn’t read the program?

3 CREATION OF PLAYBILL You are going to create a playbill for a play of your choosing. The program is going to demonstrate how much you understand about the play. The more you know about your play, the more you’ll be able to come up with a synopsis, visualize it as a director, create a costume, and come up with an idea for a cast list.

4 Front Cover: The Image Come up with one image or picture to identify the play. Add a title for your image, preferably the name of the play. Caveat: You can’t use a photo from the existing play; you must create your own visual.

5 Inside Left Cover: The Synopsis
The trick is that the synopsis has to entice an audience without giving away anything. What are the things the audience has to know to enjoy the play?

6 Inside Left bottom cover: The Cast
Think outside the box in search of your ideal cast. You can use real life actors. It’s encouraged. You will need to include a small biography in paragraph form with each actor you choose.

7 Inside right cover top: The Look
Present a costume piece. Include samples of fabrics, colors, styles that would go into the costume.

8 Inside right cover bottom: the director’s note
You are going to pretend you are the director of this play. This is where your vision is spoken. Why did you choose this play? What do you want the audience to get out of it?

9 Back cover: The ad Keep it in tune with the content of the play.
What company would complement the play? Why would it complement the play?
