2 Module Overview About K2 Designer Launching and navigating K2 Designer
The category system Hands-on exercise: Launch and navigate K2 Designer Checkpoint: Introduction to K2 Designer Module Overview This short module describes the K2 designer and what it is used for. We will also talk about the category system and how it is used This module wraps up with a quick exercise where you will open K2 Designer and create some folders in the category system that we will use for our Leave Request Approval application. 3 About K2 Designer Where do I find K2 Designer?
What can I build with K2 Designer? SmartObjects SmartForms (Forms and Views) Workflows What do I use K2 Designer for? Build application elements (SmartObjects, SmartForms, and workflows) Combine these elements to assemble an application Build reusable SmartObjects, SmartForms, and workflows for other users to use in their applications Manage the Category System (“folders”) to organize your K2 environment About K2 Designer To access K2 Designer, launch a web browser and then open the K2 Designer URL. Your environment may or may not have a shortcut to K2 Designer in the start button menu The URL is typically something like but the exact URL depends on your K2 environment. Contact your K2 administrator if you do not know the URL for your K2 Designer environment. From the K2 Designer start screen, you easily begin to create a new form, workflow, view, or SmartObject, or open and edit items you have worked on recently. When you launch K2 Designer and arrive at the Designer landing page you have several options: Create a new form, workflow, view, or SmartObject Open and edit an item you recently worked on. Open a recent folder you worked in Browse the categories on the K2 environment Use K2 Designer to build SmartObjects, SmartForms, and workflows, and then combine these elements to create or ”assemble” a business application. You can also use K2 Designer to build reusable SmartObjects, SmartForms, and workflows that other people can then use in their business applications. You can also use K2 Designer to manage the Category System, which is essentially a tree-like folder structure that is used to organize your k2 environment.

4 The category system Use the category system to
Organize and categorize the K2 environment Group application elements together in folders and sub-folders Navigate and locate applications and other items View application elements’ relationships Implement a consistent naming and structure approach for the applications in your organization Check items in and out The category system also appears in the Management Site and in K2 Workspace The category system The category system is a folder-like mechanism used to organize, group, name, and secure projects, applications, and application elements. Think of this as a repository of items on the K2 Server. Folders can be nested The folder structure of the appears in the category browser, as well as in other tools like the K2 Management Site and K2 Workspace It is a good idea to design and implement a consistent naming and folder structure approach for your organization. This will allow other users to easily find applications and elements, and can help administrators to maintain the K2 environment more easily, since it is easy for them to find the items/folders that they need to work with. In the Category Browser, different icons are used to represent different types of objects. There is also Expand/Collapse functionality to see the dependencies between items, and you can check Views and Forms in and out using the Category Browser My Items: Shows all the items that you created or that you are working on (in other words, items that are checked out to you) You can use the category system to check items in and out You can also use the category system to see relationships between items, for example which Views are used on a Form
