Ancient Rome surrounded the Mediterranean sea. Ancient Rome began on the Tiber river. Ancient Rome began small but got large by conquest. The Italian peninsula is shaped like a boot and is covered the Apennine mountains. The Ancient Roman empire would include: Egypt, Greece, and Mesopotamia. Mesopotamia means land between two rivers. Ancient Greece was also located on a peninsula.
