The Reunion Genesis 45 An Invitation to Come! “Come unto me!”
Because of our sin against our Sovereign and Savior, we had to go. We cannot be in His presence in sin. But Jesus died for us in our place. Jesus loves us! Jesus flings the doors of banishment open and says to us “come,” “come unto me.” He has provided a way. 2

Matthew 28:5-7 (NASB) 5 The angel said to the women, “Do not be afraid; for I know that you are looking for Jesus who has been crucified. 6 He is not here, for He has risen, just as He said. Come, see the place where He was lying. 7 Go quickly and tell His disciples that He has risen from the dead; and behold, He is going ahead of you into Galilee, there you will see Him; behold, I have told you.”

“Come and see” – Matthew 28:5-7 The women are invited by an angel to investigate the empty tomb. Think of all the things that might have hindered the women at this point. We are also invited to investigate salvation in Jesus. 3

“See the place where the Lord lay” We come to the grave to see the humility of the Lord Jesus Christ. At the grave, we see the horror of sin. The grave also reminds us of where we will also lie. Most importantly, the tomb is empty. Jesus rose from the dead! We will also rise from the dead! 4

First, Joseph calls his brothers. Then he assures them of his love and forgiveness. Then Joseph tasks them with carrying his invitation to Jacob. Biblical examples of going to others The women at the tomb The disciples that followed John the Baptist The woman at the well 5

Joseph had been desperately isolated and lonely during the good and the bad. Abandoned in the cistern Defenseless in slavery Forgotten in prison Hopeless in circumstances 6

The Reunion Genesis 45 A Day to Remember Behold how he loves
Joseph had been absent more than 22 years. He had never even seen Benjamin. Joseph had not let his circumstances nor time cripple his spirit. Joseph had mastered his heart and not allowed himself to become bitter. Joseph truly loved. 7

Joseph weeps and embraces Benjamin. Joseph also weeps and embraces all those brothers who had sinned against him. Joseph does something that neither Jacob nor Moses could do – Genesis 49:5-7; Deuteronomy 33. 8

Joseph weeps and embraces Benjamin. Joseph also weeps and embraces all those brothers who had sinned against him. Joseph does something that neither Jacob nor Moses could do – Genesis 49:5-7; Deuteronomy 33. Joseph forgives by not even bringing up the selling into slavery. 8

A matter of haste Hurry back Come … don’t delay Bring … here quickly Joseph took the time to reassure his brothers and to relate all God had taught him and done in and through him. Joseph gave them the gift of time. 9

Have you heard the Savior call “come”? Have you responded to “come and see”? Are you actively sharing with everybody? 10

Luther wrote, “The churches are nothing else than lodging places of this kind in which the people who feel sin, death, and the terrors and vexations of an afflicted and wounded conscience are healed.” Is our church a healing place? Do we show affection and forgiveness? 11
