Using Linear Perspective
Drawing Ellipses Using Linear Perspective

Warning. You will need to erase unwanted lines, so DRAW LIGHTLY

Create a grid using perspective.
See “Grid in Perspective” instructions.

Ellipse – is a circle that appears distorted to an oval due to the angle at which it is seen.

Ellipse – Choose a rectangular area where you want your ellipse. The rectangular area should be wider than it is tall. Use the grid.

Ellipse – Find the midpoints of that rectangle by making an “X” from corner to corner.

Ellipse – Divide the rectangle again, horizontally.

Ellipse – Divide the rectangle again, vertically, by connecting to the vanishing point.

Ellipse – mark the midpoint of each line segment.

Ellipse – draw the ellipse
x

Ellipse – erase unnecessary lines.

Ellipse – Side View If you do not have a grid to work from, you will need to draw a rectangle using the vanishing point.

Ellipse – Side View Find the center of this rectangle.

Ellipse – Side View Draw the curved ellipse.

Ellipse – Side View Draw the curved ellipse.
