What decisions shape the news?
All news provide factual information, but news organizations and reporters differ in how they report the news. One news article can differ widely from another one that covers the same topic or issue. Why is this the case?

While most journalists share professional values that guide them in doing their job, they all make a series of decisions that affect the news they produce.

Working with limited resources, editors and reporters have to decide:
whether to cover an issue or event where and from whom to get information what to include in the story and what to leave out how to communicate the information Each of these decisions help to shape the news that is reported.
