Solubility the ability of a substance to dissolve into another substance
2
What does “dissolve” mean?
Dissolving means that one substance spreads out and mixes very well with another substance.
3
Dissolving In order to say that one substance dissolves really
well into another substance, you should see: No layers (no particles floating or sinking) One color from top to bottom in container
4
Dissolving Sometimes it might seem that the substance that dissolved “disappeared,” but it’s really still there. The particles have gotten so tiny, that it might appear like those particles have disappeared.
5
Think as solubility as “dissolve – ability.”
6
What is a solution (in science class)?
A solution refers to the new matter that contains the original matter with the soluble particles. Examples of solutions: Salt water coffee with sugar Eye drop solution
7
Quiz Put your thumb up for the next slides if the matter seems to be a solution. Put your thumb down if it’s not a solution.
