How accessible are tourism establishments in SA?
What does South Africa have to say about public buildings that are not accessible to the disabled? The TGCSA has recognised the importance in the tourist accommodation sector. Systems have been put in place to make it happen – the UA Grading System This cannot succeed without the requisite regulatory environment. (eg: smoking regulations – all buildings now comply)
7
3. Green Grading As a user of accommodation establishments, you must demand to know their status, thus helping to create consumer awareness and a demand for ‘Green Grading’ – leading to environmental friendliness for SA as whole.
8
2. TGCSA Relationships with Provinces
Municipal by-laws differ per Province thus hampering the promoting & development of tourism accommodation (eg licences & permits) in a consistent manner.
9
4. Client Feedback As a user of accommodation establishments, please let us know what your experience was – good or bad!! This will help to measure the success/lack thereof of the TGCSA in the market place. The next review to be conducted MUST reflect a dramatic increase in consumer feedback. SMS the word ‘star’ to 31649

5. Support by Govt Departments
Cabinet decision - All Govt departments to ONLY use Graded Establishments This to ensure adherence to quality standards in South Africa. To-date, not all departments use Graded Establishments. Total lack of respect and support for the TGCSA No obligation to adhere to quality standards This performance needs to be measured and reported on by the various govt departments. TGCSA will be able to verify info
